FH V8 Engine ID
I know this subject has been beaten to death for original motors. Thought I'd look over my '47 motor and figure out what parts I needed when I remove and freshen it up this winter.
Surprise. Not a 59A block or heads. Is there any way to identify what a "replacement" motor is? Attached a few pictures with descriptions of numbers available. Motor has:

Re: FH V8 Engine ID
Ignition and inlet manifold appear correct for your 47, heads are pre war, block is pre war. To know what's inside the only real way to know is pull the engine. Could be any combination of parts. Could be slinger type rear seal or rope seal. This obviously has a bearing on what crank, could be 8BA type. Could be 3 1/16 or 3 3/16 bore, this is an easy pull a head and look. The bottom end can only be confirmed by getting real oily, sorry.
It'll be fun though. Martin. |

Re: FH V8 Engine ID
I forgot to add that the oil pan rail has the 2 "bumps" per side for the "plugs" on pre-war blocks.
Almost talked myself into buying a running 46 - 48 motor just to have a "real" 1947 car..... Anyone have one for sale? |
