Default Transmission fork shafts

Should the shift shafts have lead in/ lead out "tails" into the grooves or not?
The Brattons website pics shows the high/intermediate shaft does not have tails but the pic of the low reverse shaft does have them. Here's what I've just received from a supplier ( not Brattons!) Are these worn or are they meant to be like this ?? (Intriguingly some of the other shafts I have do not have any "tail" at all)

They are supposed to be like that. The tail is for oiling purposes or so I have been told.

My understanding was that those "tails," i.e. the triangular areas of removed material on either side of each detent, are in fact areas of wear. The severity of the wear is how you determine whether your shafts need to be replaced or not. New shafts should have no tail. That's what I was told anyway.

Here's the image from the Bert's website. No tails.

Just to confuse things further, some vendors show the 2nd/high shaft with no "tails" and the low/reverse with "tails"??
