Rebuilt motor installation options
Question for the experts...
Now that I have the 59A motor rebuilt and sitting on the floor, I am pondering my next move. It was professionally rebuilt, but not run by the re builder because at the time, the starter, carb and distributor were not available. I have the capabilities to run it on the floor stand. What are the plus and minuses of doing so. If I run it on the stand, for how long would be recommended, keeping in mind there is no load on the system. I remember an earlier post that cautioned on extended run with out load. Thanks for any input. |

Re: Rebuilt motor installation options
Only downside of installing it is if you have a leak you cant fix easy in the car you have to pull it again.
If the rest is ready to go drop it in and run it ! |

Re: Rebuilt motor installation options
I would fire it up on an old tire, check for oil pressure, listen for bad noises. It's beat to have some exhaust mufflers on it. The point here is, nomater what kind of run stand you have, don't run it very long. I'd say bring it up to temperature. If everything checks out OK. shut it down, re torque heads and install it. Then drive it hard.

What are you referring to as a floor stand? If you are referring to an engine stand, that would indicate you would be hanging the engine off the bellhousing. I wouldn't even mount a complete 59a engine off the bellhousing let alone start it!

Not to worry. Supporting the motor responsibly from water pump front mounts and the bell housing.

Re: Rebuilt motor installation options
Progress on the rebuild.
Primed the oil system, fuel to carb and started right up. As instructed, ran up to temp, checked for leaks (none) and torqued head nuts (55ft/lbs). All that's left is to install and drive hard. Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3OR...ature=youtu.be |

Re: Rebuilt motor installation options
It does sound good, but isn't it conventional wisdom to run it at about 2000 RPM at first start-up for camshaft break-in rather than letting it idle?

Makes ya giggle inside...I know it's hard not to stay up for an all nighter and get it installed. Then you could drive it to breakfast.
Sounds good. |
