Re: Can somebody shed some light as to what these people are thinking?
Do you mean that
F=ma where a = dv/dt so F=mdv/dt, and Fdt=mdv, integrating both sides yields Ft=mv where Ft is Impulse and mv is Momentum?

My Model A is my child, and that looks like child abuse to me.

Where are the coups and roadsters? I guess the heavier cars have an advantage.

If you think this is bad, you want to see the Austin trials on the same course. Talk about scarce and expensive parts, not to mention somewhat fragile. The little Austin Sevens push through the mud and the crud. I've seen some that got stuck, but I never saw one actually "Break" down. Pretty harrowing course for these old girls.

Re: Can somebody shed some light as to what these people are thinking?
One wants to get weight onto the rear wheels thus coupe and roadsters aren't seen much unless they have a dicky seat... other ways are getting grip are dropping the tyre pressure to single psi figures , and synchronised bouncing to add "weight" to the driving wheels. .. bouncing sideways sometimes needed if just one wheel is spinning ... Model As are favoured for this lark as they are cheap, tough and have excellent low speed torque. All good muddy fun... certainly not clean fun!

Very English indeed. Seems that the right hand drives have the advantage!

I know it's their car and they can treat it however they want but, it pains me to see those cars abused that way.

They would be bored to tears watching a tour of old cars piddlying down the road at 45mph, so to each his own. I'm sure many of our grandparents thought it would be fun...but that was before the internets...

I am not that big of a fan of silly gymkana contests but, this looks like an event that I would eagerly participate. Now all that is needed is a club willing to host this fun............. anyone?

Yeah, it looks like fun, but I’d hate to do the repairs afterward. I wouldn’t want to participate In my car. Maybe use a friend’s car instead? [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What's happening to that black and tan sedan at the 4:50 mark? It sounds like he's coasting it backward downhill with the engine off.

The British seem to concern themselves more with the mechanical aspects of the car when restoring. Paint jobs are usually whatever colors are cheap. Note that the Mod A s are painted colors Henry never used. And very little of BC/ CC. That level of shine is phoney any how! Overrestored! However, I wonder which engine they are using.

I would not own a car that I could not have that much fun with, given the chance!

I can tell you what they were thinking: "It’s my car and I can do any damn thing I want with it."
" I me me mine. It’s all about me."

Re: Can somebody shed some light as to what these people are thinking?
Over there they actually have wood burning fueled cars...not very effiient but some cars are made to do that...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkos_214ZHM Unless he has that burner in the front seat, I cannot see where he might have the burning part of the mech |

These conversions to wood gasifier were mostly done during the war as fuel was expensive and availability was very bad. That said I haven't once seen one in real life so I guess they are extremely rare today. (most have probably been converted back to stock or just scrapped as time went on) So the chances of having a real oven inside the Model A are probably higher than a wood gasifier A. When watching these videos about old and vintage cars being driven hard offroad I'm kinda torn. On one side it's cool to see the cars being brought to their limits, and I kinda think the conditions of the roads in the 20s and 30s were not much better than what we can see here. On the other side it breaks my heart to see rare (they really are rare over here!) and old cars enduring such torture. I know that I wouldn't EVER do it to one of my cars. I'd take the old enduro instead and have at least as much fun as the guys driving their cars. If you want more stuff like this, check out videos about the "Land's End Trial": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F17tnSafCDI Last edited by bavArian; 07-03-2021 at 01:59 AM. |
