Transmission Oil Question
I have a Hobby Shop members Model A in my garage for a repair. It was broadsided and broke transmission off bell housing. Trans is a T170 4 speed overdrive that was modified to bolt to bellhousing and torque tube. I have it all back together and would like to know what gear oil to put back in. Member said it was a 50/50 mix of STP and gear oil. What gear oil should I put back in the transmission for best performance. Thanks

Re: Transmission Oil Question
I would think what ever Ford recommended for the T170. Not being smart. But I'm sure they researched what was best and not some home brewed mixture.

Re: Transmission Oil Question
I called a good friend at Ford dealership and they couldn't give me a definitive answer. I'm thinking 90w GL5. Don't know why they added STP

Re: Transmission Oil Question
According to a truck forum (the T150 was used by Ford late 70's to mid '80's) 75W should be fine behind an A motor.
