Question 1934 ford pick-up fuel sender replacement

I would like to replace my hydro gas level sending unit (1934. Ford pickup) with current 12 volt unit that will fit my stock tank. Sender and gas pickup in one unit. Anyone have any suggestions?

This is exactly what I did on my '34 pickup with the stock gas tank. A very informative article is on the hotrodhotline.com site

Interesting, but all most all of this article relates to later style gauges. I know Ford used the same current type of gauge at least into th 60s, but I'm not sure how easy it is to switch the parts around.

Original poster wants a 12 volt sender so I assumed he wanted a modern gauge. I used AutoMeter gauges and their gas tank sender, which had to have the mounting holes redrilled for the original Ford pattern. The fuel pickup was silver soldered to the sender disc. Here's the only photo I could find that shows the sender/fuel pickup in the tank. Note that the fuel line must come out at right angles to fit under the bed.

Thanks . I decided to replace gas tank and filler tube because of leakage. Called Bob Drake for new one. Tank has bung for gas line on bottom. Can use Stewart-Warner sender in place of original.
