Smile Roll-down rear window in 1929 Sport Coupe?

I recently acquired a 1929 Sport Coupe, finally fulling a 50-year-old dream on my bucket list. The grand kids love to ride the back roads with me in the rumble seat. However, the fixed rear window makes communication with them difficult. Is it possible to install a roll-down or venting rear window in this model? If so, I'd appreciate any guidance you can give me. The available conversion kits I've seen so far in the catalogs all seem to be for 30-31s.

There is no fixed window in a sports coupe. A sports coupe had a rear window that is installed on a flap that can be lifted up inside and attached to the main bow. You must have a standard or special coupe. These two coupes (standard or special) never had roll down windows like the later 31's did. It would be almost impossible to install a roll down window in one of these two coupes.

fordfun: A 29 sport coupe has a canvas top that does NOT fold down and landau arms on the side. Can you post a picture of your car??

My '29 Sport Coupe comes with the flap that zips and folds up and has locking
snaps that allow the window/flap to stay folded up against the ceiling, thus allowing
for all the conversation you can tolerate between the rumble seat and the front
seat.

Here's the rear window on a '29 Sport Coupe. It's very accessible from the rumble seat.

Gents -

Sorry for the delay in responding. I needed to take some photos and learn how to post them. Hopefully I did.

She was represented as a Sport Coupe and I believe resembles one. This is an older restoration. Apparently when the top was replaced the fixed window was installed. My question is whether it's possible to install a roll-down or venting window for better communication with rumble seat passengers.

Thanks - Bill

Quite an interesting Coupe. I wonder what's under the outside covering? Also did you notice the door beltline doesn't match what's behind it.

Unless someone installed a top unlike original sports coupes have, it looks like a normal sports coupe with a unique top. It is possible the car was a business coupe that someone added landau irons. The top is not like the tops on original sports or business coupes. I looks nice, but not like original. I think you would need to install a new top to obtain a fold up and in rear window that allows open space between the cab and rumble seat.

Basically what the guys are saying is that no, it's not possible to install a roll down window. The top is very "custom" and would have to be completely redone which could be opening an expensive "can of worms". Below are pics of a couple 1930 models but the construction was essentially the same. The rear curtain could be unfastened and tilted forward and up and refastened fully open.

Thanks for all of the comments, gentlemen. It wasn't the answer I was hoping for, but was indeed the one I suspected. Perhaps someday I'll install a new top that more closely replicates the original. Any suggestions about possible sources?

Great looking car, Marco!

Here's a pic of a modified Roadster rear window that is
an interesting alternative.

It looks to me as if the previous restorer of Bills coupe has used roadster roof bows instead of SC bows, at least for the rear one anyway.

Like this,

mine has a Carson top and a roll down rear window, it also has a headliner like any regular coupe. I truely believe it was a 5 window coupe before someone decided to make it look like a sport coupe. BTW I wish I had those side windows, I sure could use them at an intersection.

What a beauty, Marco! Did you do the interior and top work? My wife and I are currently installing interior and top and find the instructions that came with our Cartouche top kit seriously lacking. No mention about covering the tack rail at all! Nor are there any instructions for installing the cloth support straps Actually, not sure what they are called as they are not even mentioned by name!
If you did do the work and can remember the most important thing you learned about the installation that you would like to share with us, we'd be grateful!
PS: Our '28 Sport Coupe is the same color as yours! Came from factory with this color!
