Default Rear Wiring Harness - Upper Rear Corner Clip

In the judging standards on page 2-10 under the discussion of the rear harness it states it is routed to the frame upper rear corner bracket where it is fastened with a clip. The car is a May 29 coupe.

Does anyone have a picture of the position of the clip. Is the curved portion of the clip that holds the wire facing down or does the wire go on top of the upper corner bracket and therefore you do not see the curved portion from beneath the car?

Thanks - Hunter

Thumbs up Re: Rear Wiring Harness - Upper Rear Corner Clip

Hunter,

While I know what the Judging Standards indicate, I am attaching photos of an unrestored June 1929 Standard Fordor and its tail lamp wiring and associated clips.

Photo
1. Wiring goes under left engine mount, first clip cited in JS.
2. Wiring goes through center crossmember
3. This is on the frame rail behind the center crossmember, first of the three clips after the center crossmember. (Blurry-sorry)
4. Frame rail clips 3 & 4 along left side framerail.
5. Rear corner, side framerail and rear crossmember joint. No wiring clip as indicated in JS.
6. From rear of car looking forward at rear crossmember. No "special clip" attaching the tail lamp wire as indicated in JS, and no evidence there has ever been one.

From this, just one unmolested Model A, we can see that this one does not match the JS regarding the corner clip and the special clip for the tail lamp extension (And opn several other items).
At this point, you have choices to make and need to ask yourself questions. Do you want to score as much as possible during judging? If yes, then you install all the clips as indicated in the Judging Standards. As written so many times before, our Judging Standards are not perfect and never will be. We have to take into account the many different assembly plants Ford had running, and the many different employees within those plants that may have cared to do it the way Ford desired, or may not have cared. Then, there are many other factors including the need to create a set of "standards" for judging purposes that had to ignore the fact that there could be multiple variations for many of the more than 5,400 or so parts on the Model A Ford.

Hunter, to corroborate what Dave says, my unrestored 11/28 fordor is in the same manner as his for the taillight wiring. However, my 3/29 business coupe that was the Henry car in 1994 (Dave knows this vehicle), has a wire clip on the upper triangular gusset between the side rail and the rear crossmember as it passes over the frame per the JS. There is no clip on the extension. So as Dave recommended, you have to make the call but the judges are obliged to follow the JS.

Where does the stop lamp switch wiring route as it leaves the switch and joins the wiring loom back to the stop lamp? 28 pick-up

Thanks
