I met him only once but he was a very considerate, thoughtful and professional man.
He will be missed, rest in peace...

That's a darn shame ! He was a very nice and knowldgable man.
I reastored two '57 2x4 carbs for him about 15 years ago, and he was very nice and considerate to deal with.
RIP Gil

I never met the man but from everything that I read on his postings at Gil's garage, he was a very talented man. He knew his T-Birds really good. When I first converted my 55 from a 6 volt to a 12 volt system, I was able to do it by reading all the info he showed on how to do the conversion, including what parts had to be changed and what parts could be left alone. There was a guy that posted the day he passed that he knew Gil real good and had spoken to him not too long ago in which he told him that his check engine light had been coming on more frequently. To joke about it takes a big man with a good heart. RIP Mr Baumgartner.

Certainly. He has left a lasting legacy with lots of great knowledge. I found his page on fordomatic transmission identification to be very useful in figuring out where the engine and transmission in my 56 Victoria came from.

I exchanged several emails with him over the years regarding questions about my 1957 Thunderbird. He was a wealth of knowledge, and always willing to assist.
I will think of him every time i open my restoration manual.
