Default 1936 coupe, is this factory?

i'm getting my coupe ready for paint, so i've been fixing all the things that can happen to a car of this age. i'll be posting some pics of the left and right lower cowl repair that are finally done later.

the car had been up against the wall for months while i was working on the driver side cowl, so i haden't see the passenger side for some time.

i moved the car so i could go over areas to recoat epoxy primer, and found a strange slot hole i can't remember ever seeing in the passenger door jamb.
if i had seen it, i would have done the repair. i'll post some pics, and you can tell me what you think. . . .thanks, kurt.

i think blacknred is right. it does look like a chisel or something similar was used. i got behind it and saw the door post had a exit hole coming through, also rectangular. the door post is a hallow "box" about 1-1/8" thick, exit hole is smaller telling me it was tapered like a sword of something. they must have had to use a hammer to do the damage as the metal is bent/folder outward. anyway, it looks like 3 or 4 hours to make it go away.
thank you for the replies, kurt.

Is that hole in the back door jamb or in the cowl? If it's in the back door jamb it doesn't belong there. If it's in the cowl I don't see any place for the door hinges to mount?

It is on the B pillar / back door jamb from what I can see. Unfortunately, it does not belong.

alright. the mess is cleaned up, i took a few photos and now can get back to doing some bodywork. i still can't believe i didn't remember this gash. i will be posting some lower cowl repair photos and some firewall repair photos too. what it takes to get these old car in shape is nuts. they go through hell before we even buy them.
anyway, here's the photos of this repair. . . .

Great looking repairs. I can't imagine what the reason was for making those holes in the first place, but it looks good now.
