Default accelator rod

My gas pedal lays over the right which interferes with being able to push the pedal the whole way down, removed the carpet, there is about a 1 inch hole around the rod, ordered a patch from Macs it is 1 13/16 x 1 13/16 square and 1/8 inch thick with 1/8 inch beveled hole in the center. the rod is 3/16 round with 3/8 ball on the end. My question is the patch heavy enough to hold the rod to keep the pedal in right position?

There should be two sheet metal screws that hold the pedal to the floor. Either one of them is missing or loose or the flexible part of the pedal is torn. The patch you refer to is just to seal out dirt from getting in. The rod fits into a recess on the pedal and should not fall sideways. Ben

Don't feel alone. When I bought my 'bird, the pedal was the same way-loose. When it wouldn't tighten, I pulled both screws. One was oversize sheet metal, the other a wood screw. When I got the second one out I heard the "thunk" under the car. Found a piece of wood laying on the ground. Been there long enough to be rotten, so the screws weren't tight.

If the rust is just around the screw holes, a threaded insert might help. If it's all over like mine was, I built a plate from the toe board to the floor board, screwed it down, and put the pedal to it. New floorboards came later, but it got me by for a couple years.

Bad floor found under the accelerator pedal?
I have no idea what you're talking about.

(A previous owner's patch on the rusted out section.)

Removed pedal and carpet and the rod seems to be bent, doesn't look right purchased new rod to see difference.
