Default AA truck rim liner (flaps) question

I need to purchase some flaps for my 20" tires but I see several widths listed. These are for AA locking rims 600X20. The width choices are 5", 7" and 8". Which width should I get?

When I demounted my AA truck outer wheels and took them apart for restoration, I found MEGA FLAPS of the kind which I had never seen before. Must have been all of 8 or 10 inches wide, and quite heavy. Two layers - an inner layer more like the width of the rim, and an outer layer which extended at least two and maybe three inches up into the sidewall of the tire. The two layers were attached and together - vulcanized that way apparently.

So I guess my answer would be to get the large economy size.

I took a look at Snyders to see what they had available for flaps, but found only one offered - and no details on width.

This might be worth a search over at the AA truck forum. http://forums.aa-fords.com/viewforum.php?f=1

You might call Lucas tire and see what they recommend.

I wasn't aware of there being different widths offered for them. I bought mine from Snyders and they covered the wheel and up the sides of the tire a short distance. I would think that just wide enough to cover the wheel and a bit of the sidewall is plenty. Perhaps the extra wide ones would be good if you were carrying rather heavy loads. Hard working days for my truck have long since passed.

I was doing some price reconnaissance when I found the different widths available on Universal Tires' site. My pocket book started shacking when I first saw the prices on sites before I came across Universal. Even on eBay I saw some as high as $42. That's more than I paid for the tubes.

I got my tires, tubes and liners from Coker. They sent 7" liners and they worked fine. 32 BB wheels are the same width as 30-31 AA's

7" it will be. I'll order them up.

Thanks everyone.
