Default BB truck question

I got great advice on how to remove the rear brake drum on my 34BB. I’ve discovered a broken snap ring. Does anyone know where I might locate parts? It’s a full floating axle and the snap ring is 3.24 inches in diameter. Also does anyone the purpose of it? Thanks

Just a quick look at McMaster Carr shows a 3-1/4 od snap ring, not sure which you have (internal/external) or other but it "could" be a source for you.

If it's for the grease seal the part number is BB-1180-C.

Thanks, there was no seal on this side. Now the snap ring makes sense.

That one has got me a few times. Not sure if it's called internal or external, but it expands outwards when removed. and all but dissappears into it's groove. I have been on the back side with my big brass drift and a BFH trying to drive out that seal. That snap ring does a good job of retaining it . Chuck's Trucks in Conneticutt will have the parts, but the seal can go by number. Auto parts stores shoild have the snap ring. Must have been a mess running with no seal.Pictures of this truck please?

We have a few '34 full floating rear ends at my parents' house. I may be able to steal one from one of those if you can't find one.
