Clean, repair and reinstall. I got the big chunks out of the switch, but this picture was prior to cleaning the contacts. Would be nice to find a original spare switch too. It seems to work fine after the clean up.

Dale,
I will post some pictures and discussion on John's 42 deluxe thread.

Took the 32 Dump truck for a 5 mile ride and snapped a couple pictures too, cause thats what I do:

51504bat,
It was a nice cool evening ride at sunset in the 32 dump truck. Front window open about 3 inches. Going slow enough the bugs have time to get out of the way and not get splattered on the windshield! Looking forward to getting the #1 engine back in the truck this summer.
Regards,
Chris

Folks ,
As. I watched John K ( 42 Deluxe) work on his flathead I spent some time fabricating a side mount engine bracket for my B engine, to rotate the engine to allow easier access to work on things like valve lapping and piston install. It took me all day but I have a pretty good mount on the water outlet and 4 bolts into the pan holes. At 90 degrees today I am pretty much toast!
Will try to have some pictures in the morning. Total cost is my time. Parts were laying here . I tested it and it looks to be fine. Whittled it out of angle iron bolted to the existing engine mount system.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
It takes me a day to get pictures set up to place here. Just not moving very fast
So here is the cobbled up side mount engine stand. Not much for looks but hell for stout!

4 pieces of angle iron whittled to size and configured to mount to the "B" block and to the rotating portion of my engine stand.

This should allow me to complete the assembly process a lot easier. Hope to even install the pan in this position also. Considering just pulling the engine and not the tranny. I know David G recommende both to come out. Will see when I get closer to that portion of the engine exchange. I need some parts off the current engine so it will have to be removed before this assembly work can be completed.:

Great grandsons will be with us today. Maybe we will pick some strawberries!
Regards,
Chris

Barners,
It does rotate:

Hoping to get the valves lapped soon. I must have forgot to order valve springs, so Snyders has a set on the way.

I am seeing more water in the oil on the current engine. Will be good to get this improved one transplanted into the dump truck.
Thanks for checking in on me!
Regards,
Chris

Ford Folks,
Other details in getting this block ready for assembly is to chase all the threads. Lots of dirt and gunk down in those. It will help with the assembly:

I need to take the crank out one more time, as I did not apply any sealant on the outer portion of the rear lip seal.

May move the truck into the shop living room and begin work to take the current engine out. I need several components off of that engine to mate back up with this block.

Hope all the dads out there had a great fathers day. It was a treat for me to take our oldest son for his first ride in the truck he drove it back home and I think he liked it!
Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, I enjoyed seeing you and the truck at Franklin. I was kind of hoping to ride in it, but I had to leave to go to a funeral.

It's probably something on my end, but I'm not seeing your pictures the last few days. Are you doing anything differently?

Als48,
Sorry you missed the ride in the ragged ol truck. Your always welcome to take it for a spin. Humm, the pictures I have been putting up are in a new hosting site called "postimage". Which seems to work ok, and I can see them when I post. Other folks not seeing them??
So I posted one picture today at 9:22 side of engine block??
Rergards,
Chris

Mart,
Thanks for checking in on me.
Sidevalve8ba,
You don't happen to have some extra rims for 32, 33 big truck? Nate (Redpond2) needs 3 for his dump truck.

Me and the wife relaxing in the living room of the shop. Cheryl is reading a owners manual for a 1980 Ford truck! Go figure:

Everyone needs a old dump truck in the living room too! Its in position, to begin the engine removal.

Regards,
Chris

Chris,

Let me know if you're going to be up in CT. I may be able to find some. I just don't want to deal with shipping them- I'm lazy.

Folks,
Friend Dale S brought me two milk cans for the truck. These add to the story of the work the truck did for mr Litwiller drilling water wells.

Off to work on the #1 engine assembly. Will pull the crank and add some advesive to the permiter of the rear crank seal rubber part and the exterior of the upper aluminum insert in the block. Then I should be able to do final torque on the crank caps. then to the valve spring assemblies.

Hope things are good in Ford land!

Dales friend Bob, a Model A guy, and I took the truck for a ride. He drove back and said the truck steering was good and the brakes were good. I was happy to here that from a guy that has way more seat time in a vintage Ford than me.

Regards,
Chris

Folks,
As John was working on his 42 I spent some quality time on the 32 B engine assembly also.
This is the rear crank seal area. I pulled the crank again and added very thin sealer to the are whewr the rubber flange would contact the cap. Also added a thin layer of sealant tot eh aluminum cap in the upper block. and a very small amout on the face of the rear beaering cap to block. This was just to fill any very minor surface flaws.
Then installed the caps and torqued done the castle nuts to 75 foot lbs and added cotter keys:

Then went to installing the valve springs keepers and retainers. I puylled the cam out again to do this as it seems easier to get the springs in place.

I was not having a good day as I misplaced several of the small taperd keepers, several fell on the floor during assembly with my hands trying to insert these on to the valve stem. When I thought I was all done, John's brother Tom found one lone little keeper about 4 feet from the engine on the floor! Wow was I suprised!
He helped me go back through each spring assembly until we found its home. Of course it was on the last valve. It must have popped out as I lowered the spring and retainer over the keepers! Bottom line is its good to double check these. Would have been easier if I had the correct valve spring compresser. I did not, and used a home made prybar.

Then I raised and held the valves up, installed the lifters and then the cam shaft was gently moved into place and aligned the timing marks again. I also did remove the old cam nut and installed a new hex style cam nut from Snyder's. The rag in the gears made this easy. torqued the cam nut to 100 foot lbs.

Regards,
Chris

Chris, some fine looking mechanical work! A bit off topic but I know you like old tractors so I thought I'd share. There's a country style restaurant near me that's been there since 1970. This and several other farm artifacts have been there all these years. I've always wondered what era this is. Perhaps you may know? There's another one with tank type tracks on it (not pictured) but it also has a hand crank on the front. If you're interested I'll attach some pics in the future as I didn't get any today.

First week in August come to Lynden, just north of Bellingham. I will take you on a loop around the 80 acres on a Rumeley Oil Pull and all kinds of rare stuff in the tractor world. I can't say just what you are seeing in those pics, but any barner shows up at the Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery meet at Lynden in August, just look me up under the big cotton 48 star old glory by the Atlas engine shed. I will be your host!
