Folks,
Looks pretty rough here: Pitman arm with seal and retainer: This was the mock up of the 33-34 pitman arm: Picture of the left spindle assembly on the bench: Back together: Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
Had a chance to o take the 32 for a test of the steering rework. Amazing improvement! At 30 mph before it was not too bad, since I am used to old worn out tractors. This was a serious improvement. Have a couple videos that I may get loaded? Robert R. And I talked while I completed 35 feet of finish ridge cap on the shop. Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
I now understand why the '33-'34 am, BB-3590-B required a unique drag link with a kink in it (BB-3305).

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
David, folks,
Still learning here. I think the drag link with the bend and the Pittman arm from a 33/34 would work fine on a 32. The alignment/ position of the ball is what was changed from 32 to 33/34. I did load a couple videos on my you tube channel. https://youtu.be/1Z2eS_Ahjbw https://youtu.be/gmqCRDg2HQY Regards, Chris

Had a good visit with Micheal from Third Gen today. I have decided to stay with the original repaired drag link and pitman arm on the 32 truck. We also talked about some of my potential issues with the rear oil leak on the current engine in the truck too. Several ideas were discussed including oil pan gaskets and seals. Possibly even a leaky oil pan. Will be interesting to see if I can figure out the problem when It comes out. If I was Mart I would have had it out and repaired and back it again several times! Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Chris,
I think that you have struck on the practical way forward. With a possible readjustment of the relationship between the steering worm gear and the sector gear per the Service Bulletins, eliminating all of the play in the drag link and spindle tie rod, reaffirmation of the correct toe in, it should all be up to snuff and give you confidence when driving. |

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Stretch, David, Ford folks,
I believe the truck drives like a 32 was when near new. Very pleased with that little project. Still on the look out for a NOS pitman arm for a 32 truck. BB-3590. The oil leak is starting to aggravate me a little. I almost pulled it under the jib crane and began a Mart job on it!. I did get the side boards from our neighbor she is a sign painter and did a great job matching the faded Washington blue lettering on the black walnut with a dull finish it kept the look just right! Not showy! That is what I wanted. Trying to get pictures to load but having computer issues. Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
I am just about ready to pull the pan on this "B" engine and try to understand this oil leak. Ok maybe I will go for a ride first. The clips of the black and red 40's in animation. Gets the juices flowing! Hope things are good in Ford land. Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
About third Gen: I am doing a '32 cab and some of the hardware is specific and hard to come by. You might think about a prepurchase of windlace screws, windscreen hinge screws and some of the cab kit. Newc

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
New,
Thanks for the suggestions! I am so new to this truck I don't even know what I don't know. Your truck is going to be very nice! I would love to get to that show in Franklin Tennessee to see Michael! Was going to take the 32 for a ride. And finally did. But first I pulled out the shift lever again and tuned it up to make it work just a little better. All those little things being completed are a result of getting this second "B" engine from Michael. A big tip on the hat to him! Now where is that engine that came with the truck? Humm need to call it was supposed to be done in April. Guess we missed that? Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
You know I like to include pictures and my imgur system is not functioning so I have to work on that this is the only picture that loaded with the business name on the side boards. The idea was to be subdued and not flashy. That is what we achieved. Keeps the focus on the ragged old truck! But I do like the look with the sideboards the same height as the bed ends. Ok did a work around and got this to load: Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
David, Folks,
Thanks on the sideboards! Makes the truck officially part of the family! Today we have rain! Ok every other day we have rain! John (42 Deluxe) talked me off the ledge today. I was thinking of pulling the pan on the engine #2 to evaluate the rear leak. But John suggested that I wait and get the #1 engine and then worry about a problem I might not be able to fix by just dropping the oil pan. The oil leak as bad as it is, still allows me to move the truck and make a few short trips. I did talk to the machine shop and the #1 engine is being fitted with the three new custom thrust washers. The crank is done. This crank will have .030 undersized mains and .040 undersized rod bearings. The new rear seal system will be reviewed with the crank set in the block. I will try to be there to see that and learn about the updated rear seal. The rear crank oil slinger has been removed from the crank. The engine block surface will be cleaned up after the new custom valve seats are gently inserted, secured, and finish machined. The head has been dressed flat. The camshaft will be evaluated for excessive or uneven wear. So things are progressing. Looks like a couple weeks out. May not have this engine in the truck for the June 12th car show. Maybe more like mid summer?? We will see. Thanks for checking on me and the ragged ol' truck. Thought I better throw in a recent picture without the side boards at our favorite turn around spot, down the road a half mile. Yea she is a sassy one! Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Chris,
It's all truck, there's no question, but it is easy to forget that its wheelbase was short relative to some cars of the era. For example, within the Ford family, its wheelbase is nearly 6" shorter than that of the shortest Lincoln, that of a KA and nearly 15" shorter than that of the KB. |

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
David, Folks,
Yes this project actually fit with in the guidelines that it had to be able to fit on the little goose neck car hauler that I have. I have estimated the weight at around 6000 lbs. May get a chance to haul it to a couple shows this summer. Being lazy today! Guess that's what your supposed to do once in a while when retired? Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
The Model A Truck Owner book show a short wheel base truck with heavy duty
hydraulic hoist at 4460 Lbs. I would think the BB would be about the same. |
