Default 1942 Merc Flathead - First Fire Video

I know there are a lot of flathead guys on this site, thought you might enjoy the compilation video I made of the first firing of my 1942 full-race Merc flathead. I cover all the technical details over on the HAMB.

Engine Specs:

- 284 Cubes, 4 1/8 stroke, 3 5/16 bore
- Rods: 21A full-floaters
- Custom roller cam - .420 lift and 320 degrees duration at .010
- Valves: 1.72" intakes and 1.6" exhausts
- Custom Ross pistons, metric TotalSeal rings
- 100% full-flow oiling system
- Heavily ported and relieved
- Intake: Original Eddie Meyer, ported 10 ways to Sunday
- Heads: Navarro . . . thanks to my old friend Barney
- Performance Coatings: pistons, valves, bearings
- And a lot of other detailed and goofy stuff . . .

Enjoy:

If you take your time and pay attention to the details, there is no reason yours can't be just as good as this one. I've found that what allows me to make better engines today than when I was younger - is patience and not being in as much of a darn hurry. With that said . . . this did take me about a year and 1/2 of work (with downtime in the middle).

Best of luck - if I can help you in any way, just ping me!

Dale

Nice--you spent some money on lifters and machine work for that roller cam!

Dale, Thank you. I have been side tracked by other projects & life in general the last couple years. My motor is is in long block form & I was having some issues degreeing the cam. It is a custom ground dual pattern cam that my machinest (retired now) & I came up with. The exaust side wasn't matching the specs that it was suppose to be when I parked the project to do other things.(I get too many projects going at the same time) I've got to get back on it. When I see posts like yours it gets my heart pumpn & makes me want to get back at this one. Sincerly. Bill

Nice!! I like the fact that you used the full floating rods..I believe when set up right they will out perform insert bearings.

Sure sounds sweet! What are you running for exhaust? Sounds like headers and no mufflers.

Just headers at the moment - haven't had time to weld up the exhaust. I'm probably going to try straight pipes that exit if front of the rear wheels . . . see if I can get away with that for awhile! Sounds like fun to me.
