I've been looking at that tool with the idea of buying it for a long time. I think that the time is now.

Thanks Don.

Can the general public buy them or are they for Club Members only? Bob

I just saw it in Bert's or Bratton's catalog, which are at work.

I have one and it works great. I think that I bought it from Mike's a few years ago.

From Mike's AFordAble on-line catalog:

Code: T1130
Model Year: 1930 - 1931
UOM: Each
Price: $57.50

Made in the USA. Thanks to the unique design of this tool, the hub cap is easily and firmly secured to the wheel, virtually eliminating distracting rattles and lost hub caps caused by poor installation. Not for use on original Hub Caps

Sorry to dust off this old post, but I have not had good luck using this tool on my reproduction hubcaps.

For those that have experienced great success, would you please share what hub-caps you used and from where? The tool cannot be used on original caps so we're all using repops.

My tabs are so thin, they are bending flat when I try to apply them to the rim.

Any help will be appreciated.

Henry's 31,
Do you have the instruction sheet for the tool? It's pretty intuitive. PM me if you don't, include an e-mail address and I'll send you the sheet. I can talk you through it as well if you send me a phone number and good time to call.

Just put a large O-Ring around the tabs before bending. You"ll never have a problem. Macs #A1131st for 30 31. #A1131EST 28/29 .. No need for an Expensive tool. O-rings are $2.95 a Set!!!!

I have no doubt that the tool is good and will make bending the tabs easy but the price is high. For years I have used regular slip joint Ford pliers to bent and shape the tabs on 30-31 hub caps . When the tabs are correctly veed, the hub caps will snap on and off like modern cars. I vee all the tabs on mine and haven't lost one yet. Try experimenting on an old junk hubcap to perfect your skill and save some money for more parts.

I'm sorry but maybe I'm wrong but for the price tag on that is way to much. But to me it looks like someone took the end piece of a pipe the part where u close the pipe off and just welded a big washer to it and cut or pressed some notches in the washer. Just saying that's just my thought but if that all it is I just wish I would of thought of that before they did O'well another one bites the dust. I know it's a old tool or maybe not but the way I took it it's a old tool and now someone is remaking the tool. But for that price I think I will just stay with how I've done it before with a drift punch and hammer. I was shown how to do that from a old timer the was a mechanic back in the day.

I totally agree with Purdy. If you were doing several sets a day maybe ! One set every 5 years to me is not economically prudent. I personally can't justify $60 !

Back in the day the hub cap was placed on the wheel the some of the tabs were bent over to keep the cap on the wheel. To remove the hub cap one would first have to remove the wheel.

This tool allows one to "pre-bend" the taps allowing it to be taken on and off with out removing the wheel much like modern hub caps.

When I bought my A a little over a month ago I noticed that all the hub caps were pretty lose, to the point where they were rubbing off the paint on the wheel as they moved around. The only thing keeping them on is that the previous owner bent all ten tabs down. After a few failed attempts to tighten them by bending the tabs and installing the o-rings I bought from MAC's I finally ponied up and bought the "Hub Cap Tool".

And boy am I glad I did. I now have all five of the hub caps on my Sedan nice and tight, no rattles, nothing. I even fixed a couple of caps that had the tabs all bent up and were unusable.

Yes the tool is expensive but for my piece of mind and the cost saved in "possible" lost caps in the future it was worth it to me.
