NZ V8 Fire Engine comes home
Here's the link to an article on "Stuff" here in NZ about a fire engine that has returned to the small town of Pleasant Point after an absence of 42 years.
Neat truck. GB https://www.stuff.co.nz/timaru-heral...le-fire-engine.

Re: NZ V8 Fire Engine comes home
Those little guys are neat. About 20 years ago, I bought a '48 Seagrave open cab pumper that came from the Portage, WI fire department. It had a Pierce Arrow V12 and 2300 road miles. The only problem was the original paint had been polished through in several places. When I got there to pick it up, the guy selling it also had a '37 Ford "mini-pumper" in the same configuration as the truck in the article. This one was also in excellent shape with less than 4000 road miles. He wanted $4000 for either engine. I had already committed to the Seagrave, and a flathead V12 trumps a flathead V8, so I jumped in the Seagrave and drove it back to Minnesota, which was fairly uneventful (except for a short rain squall).
And, of course, I have been kicking myself ever since for not immediately returning to pick up that '37 Ford. |

Re: NZ V8 Fire Engine comes home
Great story and I'm glad they correctly identified it as a fire engine and did not call it a fire truck.

What a great looking little 1952 Ford Fire Engine. Glad that it has returned home where it will be appreciated. Fantastic. |

Re: NZ V8 Fire Engine comes home
Also at this small South Canterbury town of Pleasant Point there is quite a good railway museum. Steam trains ran from Timaru through Pleasant Point up to Fairlie back in the day. At present the "Fairlie Flyer" one of the original steam trains running this track is under restoration in the local sheds here. Work being done is by volunteers.
Worth a look if in the area. Phil NZ |

Of interest to Ford Fans. The construction of light rail cars by NZ Railways using the Model T. This one is operational and believed to be the only operational one world wide. Got to love the Kiwi inventiveness. Phil NZ |
