Windows up or down for storage
I'm going to be putting my '31 CCPU up for the winter. I plan on putting it up on jackstands, putting 10 mil poly down on the floor and using a car cover. Was wondering though if there's any school of thought as far as leaving the windows up or down and the windshield cranked in or out?
Any input? |

Seal it up tight or you might be host to a very unwelcome influx of Mickey and Minnie's relatives. They will wreck the upholstery and wiring and leave a stench that will last the life of the truck. Not to mention the hauntavirus danger during cleanup.

Re: Windows up or down for storage
Close it up tight and place plenty of dryer sheets(fabric softener sheets) in the cab and under the seat .

I agree with seal it up as tight as possible, including tape the carb and exhaust closed.
I like to keep my cars with mothballs also. |

Seal it tight as a drum. It also helps to keep dust and other critters out. Even when I lived up north I tried to start my car every few weeks. I would back it out of the garage, warm it up and back in for a few more weeks.

Re: Windows up or down for storage
I have always kept the windows cracked just a little so the glass doesn't stick to the rubber seal at the top.

I will be putting mine in the "car cocoon". i leave the windows down so it can breathe.I put 2 mouse traps on each side of garage door one foot apart, against the wall.I seem to get at least 2 mice per year, one year i got 4.

---if you leave the windows down the cat can sit on the seat and guard the interior

With my doors closed mice got in. With the doors open the cat got in but left a pile of mice on the seat for me. Very thoughtful cat that one.

Re: Windows up or down for storage
Annoyingly the more we do to 'rest' our cars the harder it becomes to get them out for a quick spin on a rare nice day through winter.
Mice will get in if they want to, they don't need windows as they will squirm through any 1/4 inch gap, leaving windows cranked just 1/2 down will create a fresh through flow of air preventing the inside from smelling stale. Put down some poison bait boxes along the walls inside the building - this is good as they take it back to the nest to feed each other and that way you get em all. - Keep the bait fresh and make sure no friendly critters - dogs/cats/infants/mother in law can access the poison. I would try to make the building as tight as possible, just have a scout about and fill any obvious holes with wire wool and mastic. I run a de-humidifier through the wet season and it realy takes a lot of moisture out of the building. Mothballs and drier sheets are supposed to work - I have not used either so can not comment. Good luck with it. Bob |

Re: Windows up or down for storage
I would advise never putting plastic over a car. It traps moisture. Put plastic on floor or ground under the car if area is unheated. A friend put his Auburn boat tail outside in the summer while garage was worked on. I said don't cover with plastic. He did. Paint destroyed. Another friend covered Peerless coupe out doors for three winters with blue tarp, destroying interior and wood. Indoors, a blanket is best with plastic under if unheated.

Re: Windows up or down for storage
Very much agree with Bruce!!! This is not about your windows but I put a fan; box, ceiling what ever to move air about the storage.
