Default 9" 3rd member

Have any of you guy's bought a 9" 3rd member from Speedway? they offer 2 different ones. one is listed as Speedway 3rd member $869 and up the other one they offer is listed as 9" ford 3rd member with currie center section for $1199 and up ratios are available in 3:00, 3:25, 3:50, 3:70 , 3:89, 4:11, and 4:56. I am just wondering how good either of these products are. I was hoping some one had some experience with them and could give a + or - rating. are the crap, or are they any good. I would hate to have to pay to ship it back to them if they are no good and don't last . I am not going to be abusing it. no free shipping to Alaska. these thing are pretty heavy and shipping to and from Alaska Ain't cheap. any thoughts?

I can't help with Speedway, but these guys are down in Everett, WA. They've got a good local rep, and might be worth a phone call.

Thanks Miker98038, at this point everything helps. I sent them an e-mail. I looked at their site, did not see a complete 3rd member, just parts to build one. maybe I was not looking in the right place, any way I am sure they will answer my e-mail . Thanks for the link, I appreciate it.---Jim

I got my limited slip rear at Quick Performance, $820 + shipping + a case if you want to store the old one. I'm happy with it. This is mine with the trac-lok posi option.

Thanks bobss396, I have sent them an e-mail and am waiting for a reply. I am interested in a traction loc 28 spline with somewhere between a 3:25 and a 3:50 ratio. I saw one site that listed a 3:40 set, but I think it was for a 31 spline set-up, although I do not know why it could not be on a 28 spline axle 3rd member.

I have bought and installed a couple from Quick Performance.. Good quality and reasonable. Curry Enterprises has been around for years so I would have no issues with them. Another place to look into would be Mosier Engineering quality pieces http://www.moserengineering.com/ . Strange Engineering, Mark Williams, also a fairly newcomer in the market is Yukon, they also do the 9 inch. I noticed QP sells them.

I have bought a lot of stuff from Speedway in the past with no issues

Thanks for the info fellows, I am going to be changing out the 3rd member in my coupe a little later this fall. I will be waiting until then to buy anything. I need to pull at least one axle to verify the spline count on the axle. nothing else in the rear end on this car is what it was advertised to be, so I am not taking any chances and ordering the wrong thing. I will also hopfully be changing out the eng, takeing out the 272, and putting in a bored and stroked 292 ( will now be 313 ). thanks again for all the info.----Jim

I pulled mine too before I ordered just to make sure. Turns out my original was 28 spline and a 3.56 ratio, which is still in good condition. With Quick Performance you can order a Jaz case for it, good to ship and store the old one.

bobss396, yes I saw that option, and planed on one , as it would help protect it when shipped. It is a long (and expensive ) way to Alaska.

I'm hanging onto my OG rear so the case is a good idea. Keeps it clean while in storage. List price on the case is around $52or so, QP sells it for $40.
