Lower bearing and flange assembly 7 tooth
Hi all,
Just got a rebuilt column and the lower flange has the opening for the light switch pin at 7 o’clock not 6 like they’re supposed to be correct? Didn’t notice it til I put it in and the light positions were screwy. Thanks in advance for any info,thought I could spin it but flange is attached. |

Cant think why it should be askew so when the light switch is assembled the light lever is at 7 o,clock and not 6 o,clock ? Is there enough stock to cut another slot ? Could you post a pic maybe I am not thinking about the same thing .

The 4 hole mounting flange on this assembly is a separate piece from the bushing assembly and is pressed onto a finely splined area on the bushing assembly. It was a tight fit from the factory but, after many years, it can come loose and the bushing assembly can rotate out of proper position for the light switch. The common fix when this happens is to rotate the two pieces into proper position and braze or spot weld it so it can't move again. It is possible this misalignment of the two pieces was not noticed by the rebuilder or they were unaware of the proper positioning of the slot. If you're lucky, they didn't weld or braze it and it can be repositioned. But, you may not be able to change the position without taking the bushing assembly out of the steering box housing. I would contact the rebuilder to allow them to decide what action to take. You want to make sure they will back their product before you take anything apart. Good luck.

I thought mine just slipped over the horn tube, and then I put the key in it to hold it in place.... That little forked thingy, right?

Thanks for the replies The part appears to be new and I tried to move the plate but is definitely a no go,I’m thinking it was a factory boo boo.I’ll have a better look tomorrow.
That’s a good idea about cutting another notch didn’t think of that.I’ll let you know how it goes.Thanks again. |

Well I cut another notch and it works fine,only thing is the oil hole is on the top now instead of the bottom,should be ok if the oil is topped up Right?

Yes, I would think it should be fine.
At the angle of the steering box, that entire lower bearing is immersed in lube. |
