Default Engine ID Help

Can some one tell me what year this engine is, it was used as a ditch welder and it turns over, has spark. The third photo has h 494 cast in it and above and under the oil sender is a couple of 3's hand stamped. I hang out on the A side but acquired this before it was sent to the scrap and it was close.

Looks like a keeper to me. No mater what it is, the block is the most important part of it. The rest you can replace.

Here is what the engine is in, I have removed the dynamo that was (dynamo) tore down for scrap. The engine at this time has no oil or water in it so I am hoping the block is not cracked. I have filled the cyl with Kroil and let it sit for a week and today I sprayed a white lithium grease into the cyl and spun the engine with out the plugs. Seems to blow a lot of compression out the plug holes. It has spark at the points and the coil will snap at me, my problem is to get it to roll over a little faster just seems a bit slow. tomorrow I will add oil and maybe put 12 volts to it for a faster spin.

Just a wild guess here, but perhaps the slow cranking might in some strange way be related to having no oil in the crankcase.

Thumbs up Re: Engine ID Help

I have the engine 4 sale as I do not have the A anymore. The gen has been removed so what you are buying is the flatty, radiator and a gas tank plus the frame.
