6 volt ignition parts

I'm sure everyone has their own opinion. But looking for recommendations on where to buy replacement ignition parts. 6 volt Coil, points and condenser etc.... Is it worth buying a coil with a little more zap?

This is for a stock 59ab

I think all here will agree: Seems everything now is genuine junk. I'm lucky when I
gave mine a tune up. When my father retired close shop we moved all to a new shop
he built around 1979. Wall mounted Standard Blue Streak cabinet still had 100s tune up
points condensers caps rotors from that era. Next my coil had a melt down over nite?
so I bought a 6vt run of the mill coil Napa. These coils do not need that resister which
I think is a Ford coil / resister thing NO body used a resistor = GM Chrysler and everybody else. And my proof, a 59AB lets say equals a 46-48 Plymouth no resistor on
the Plymouth and nobody else. So put a so called beer can coil, no resistor, try and find
real points but condensers has to be high quality which most are junk in the box. Another point I make, when the new 8BAs came out no coil resister untill 12vt 1956

The points and condenser from Napa have performed well for me in a newly rebuilt 59ab. Having Skip Haney rebuild my stock coil solved the issues with it. YMMV

6v can coils do not use a ballast resistor, the resistor is used with the original Ford style coil.

Is it worth having the old coils rebuilt? Didn’t know that was even a thing.

If you want an original coil it is. Modern high quality rebuilds work well.

How do tell the originals? They stamped with Ford?

I was referring to the style of the coils. Would have to check with Skip on what he can rebuild, but my guess would be about anything as far as OEM vs early replacement. It is my understanding about all he reuses is the shell.

With the 59ab engines, the absolute purists want the reddish bakolite versions with the Ford logo. For the goodnuf crowd, which includes me, the coils with the correct black molded oem style case for the stock bracket fit the bill. That's what I had rebuilt by Skip.

See my old thread, picked up a ‘40 Ford coil at a swap meet and had it rebuilt by Skip, no issues at all and it looks great.
