59A Crankshaft
I searched the threads and found it was common to have a crankshaft without clean out holes, I double checked and my reground and balanced crank indeed does have a single hole in each rod journal leading to the main bearing journal. But after searching I found later cranks have a cleanout plug. My question is am I at some disadvantage by using the crank I have or is the later crank so much better I should look for one of those. Not that I will of course after spending so much to have this one restored but for the future I would like to know. Also are the main bearings the same for either crank.

Re: 59A Crankshaft
The thrust bearings on the mains are different. Front and center are the same. Your crank requires full floating bearings. The later cranks had 2 holes per journal and used one set of bearings per rod. You can use full floaters on the later cranks, but not vice-versa.

Re: 59A Crankshaft
Thanks I went out and doubled checked and I do have the correct bearings so is it common not to have a cleanout galley and is there a differance in oiling performance.

Re: 59A Crankshaft
Non of the early cranks had plugs. Oiling will not be a problem.
