Smile Install exhaust manifold without gland rings?

Hi,
My newly welded exhaust manifold showed a new crack after 50 mi of driving and therefore I bought myself a new one.

1. Is it true you can install the manifold without the gland rings as they are basically not necessary for proper function?

2. It it necessary to apply a high temp gasket sealant (like high temp RTV) on both sides of the conventional gaskets?

3. Is the muffler bolted directly to the manifold or do people add some high temp sealant there too? I was told that there is basically no space for any seals at all in that area. Presently I have no seals, gasket or high temp sealant where the two are bolted together by means of the bracket.

1. i use gland rings whenever possible
2. i use copper gaskets and no sealer

4. other opinions vary
5. like dad uses sealer
