Default 31Rdstr body mount wood

I am dropping the body for some trial fitting after replacing the rear inner fender and am having some challenges with the new wood block kit placement.

The rearmost blocks will not fit inbetween the bottom lip (that I left on, about 3/4" wide) of the inner panel and the top of the body rail. I have heard some say to bend that lower lip up which would absolutely prevent the block from fitting in. I've also heard to trim the lip. If I trim how wide should the lip be? and should the lip be trimmed for the entire length of the panel?
