Tire Question From a newbie!
Getting Dad's 1930 A ready for its first outing and desperately need an answer if its out there!
Car was finally finished say 6 years ago, after Dad bought it in 1951. (OK...He paced himself) Had a set of brand new Allstate Tires mounted on V8 Rims. I am now detailing the car and I cannot get what I think is some factory coating off the tires. Tried Bleache white, Comet, Castrol Purple stuff, all with a bristle brush, and its coming off S L O W L Y ! Any suggestions to remove it faster? Anybody remember what was used "in the day"? ANY Comments greatly appreciated, and yes I know the tires need to be replaced. Just trying to make her look pretty but Saturday! THANKS IN ADVANCE! Bob |

Re: Tire Question From a newbie!
I have used Magic Erasers on white walls with good results. I don't know if that will work on the coating on your tires. If the coating is sticky, you can try something like Goo Gone.

Try Brillo Pads.
This may work for you. Chris W. |

I have used scotchbrite with simple green many times to clean up dirty whites.

Re: Tire Question From a newbie!
What worked best for me was brillo pads in a thick mixture of murphy's oil soap and water. Plus the famous elbow grease.

Seems harsh, and I would not do it often. |

Re: Tire Question From a newbie!
I'd never heard of Magic Erasers until a few years ago when my neighbor gave me one to clean a white boat steering wheel that had been in an old shed for several years. That got it nice and white when nothing else worked.

Spray paint and turn them black.
