Two of my Model A's came to me with Model B distributors so the owner had automatic advance. I'd guess this would work OK, but before I even started either car I installed the original A distributors.

There's a seller on eBay that refurbishes model B distributors and sells them.
I bought one from him to get the automatic spark advance and still look original.

Nu-Rex has a new one out the goes inside the valve chamber. It is completely hidden, and works well. I have a Zipper now from F-S, and it works quite well, but I had to have Mel readjust it so the max advance was 22* so I didn't get a ping. I would go with the Nu-Rex if I ever have to replace it.

Close to stock appearance are both the B dizzy and the F-S Zipper. Both use the same "A type cap with the bronze leads to the plugs.

Closest to problem-free for a female who thinks shoes not cars is the F-S Zipper with the RED pertronix module. That one will shut down rather than burn out if the ign is left ON without the engine running. The black modules (all the 6V, some 12V) may overheat and burn out in 5-10 minutes if the key is ON with the engine stopped at a point where the magnet ring has the module triggered. The Zipper is also available with points and a condenser rather than a pertronix module. LINK

The "B" dizzy has standard points & condenser, but can be fitted with either type 6V black, 12V red pertronix module. F-S Ignitions can rebuild/fit/curve a B dizzy if you want.

If you have an original 'popout' ignition switch you can only use points. If you change the switch (and the wiring a tiny bit) you can use either points or a module.

When you see what either option costs, you'll wish she went shoe-shopping instead.

I have them somewhere, but it could take some time to find them. I'll probably sell them, but haven't decided yet for sure.

maybe you could teach her how to drive it as is not much to it. starting it is more intense than working the advance.

We have used several of the FS Zippers, and just reviewing the NuRex advance it is checking out very well. Should have the report in the next issue I think.

I agree with what Mitch said. I don't mess with my spark lever very much. I have a stock head and set the lever full up to start. As soon as the engine is running I pull the lever half way down and leave it there. If I'm driving at 45 for a time then I usually pull the spark down to about 2/3.

Agree to that comment.

The lovely Mrs. S. had the spark advance figured out in less than a minute.
