Default "D" shaped captive nuts on bodies

I know this is an old question, but I'd like to be sure. Were the "D" shaped captive nuts used on Briggs bodies only and never on Murray built bodies? Thanks, Bob

For the 1931 Slant Window 160A, B, and C - Ford had Murray and Briggs build the bodies to the same design, hence all 160's have side windows with curved upper frames. On the 160's d-nuts were used on Briggs bodies firewall and caged nuts were used on Murray bodies firewall.

Not to confuse the issue any further, but hard and fast rules regarding Model A production seem to be confusing. I have heard for years that Victoria bodies built by Murray did not have "D" nuts, only Briggs bodies.
But....I have seen Murray built Victoria bodies with "D" nuts at the cowl attachments and where the steering column passes through, with caged nuts elsewhere.

My 160B has both caged nuts and D-nuts in various places. The firewall has D-nuts everywhere, but the dash rail has caged nuts. The door parts generally had caged nuts, but the rear subrail had D-nuts. And no body tag, trademark stampings, or assembly plant stampings...

While I tend to agree about some confusion of a mixture on certain bodies. From what I've seen if the nuts that are on the firewall that are used to attach the wiring loom clamp near the terminal box and the speedometer cable clamp are cage nuts, it's a Murray. If those are D-nuts, it's a Briggs.

With the d-nuts on the firewall it would be a Briggs body and there should be a Briggs "Bug" on the cowl. See the attached photo.

I should have been more specific in the original post, I have a 1929 Fordor cowl and the dash rail screws go into "D" type captive nuts. Bob

CAPTIVE CAGED NUTS - The square nuts are inside a metal cage, 2 pieces.
D-NUTS - the whole assembly is one piece and fits into a "D" shaped hole in the metal.
Caged nut

D-nut

Thanks for posting the photo- I hadn't heard of that potential bug location. But my car has nothing at that location...
