Default Mod B Carb and other stuff

I was given several Carbs a while ago and in among them were two weirdos. One, Stock mod A zenith has the manifold bolts rotated 90 deg. The air intake would be sideways to the engine instead of inline with it. Also It is set up for a choke cable, not a GAV rod. Marine, Gleaner, Stationary engine???
The second turned out to be a Mod B carburetor with a broken flange. I was thinking about milling off about half the thickness of the remaning base and silver solder a new steel base (1/4" Plate with throat and threaded mounting holes) to it. Any suggestions???
