Default "Blowby oil container"

Some time ago I complained about oil coming out of my oil fill tube. So someone on the Barn suggest this solution. So thought I would post a picture. It works, keeps oil from getting all over everything.

Usually that forces the oil out the rear main.

You guys are correct. I think I need a complete rebuild of this engine. Glenn you are correct. It does throw a lot of oil out the rear main into the flywheel cover and on the ground when I park it. But for now this fix keeps the inside of the hood so oil does not get thrown around inside anyway.

Afraid I will have to find someone to rebuild the engine. If I did it, it would be worse that it is now. I have a guy that did my huckster so I think I will wait till spring to pull the engine and see where I go from there.

Thanks for the comments. I just thought this "unorthordox" way of doing a fix like this would "pull someones chain".

I have run into a similar problem years ago from too many RPM's with oil blowing back on the fire wall and starter and solved it with a larger breather tube added more baffles and a foam filter inside a "O" ringed cap. works great and looks great to boot and never a problem again.

Steel wool inside of the tube lets it breathe and helps keep the oil in.

Fred,
Ha, ha...that's funny ! I'm one who suggested this 'solution' in the past. BUT...the sock (actually partial) was to be loosely placed between upper baffel and cap...and occasionally looked at/changed. Since my engine has finally seated and solved the problem, for me, no longer need the sock trick....except for HIGHER rpms. Actually, I replace the sock with every oil/filter change. Your setup looks purdy tho
BTW- even with a 'good' engine, I found that only filling crankcase 'halfway' up dipstick (between full/and end of stick)....also helps the overall situation.

Hello Fred, If you do not know about Bill Barlow (541) 389-2694 (Oregon) for engine rebuilding, give him a call. He is in Bend and is one of the best!! PM me if you want more information about getting the job done.

Any problem with pushing oil out the rear main from this setup?

Instead of steel wool you might try the Choir Girl Brass available in any grocery store cleaning section. It never rusts and if a piece goes down the tube it will do less harm than steel wool !

Thanks Ben. I have used a guy in McMinnville that did a good job on my huckster. But will check into the Bend fellow.

The engine can vent easier if you use the larger breather tube & cap from a late 32-34 B engine.

I also worry about small pieces of steel or copper falling into the oil pan so it seems to me that one of the plastic "Chore Boy" pads would work just as well and less chance of damage if a piece falls into oil pan.
