Default Tail pipe support

I'm flogging my 30 Cabbie getting ready for two shows this weekend. I wanted to take a ride and The Good Lord gave me a feeling not to go. Turns out the asbestos in the special mount for the Areis muffle had fallen out. This loosened the clamp at the exhaust manifodld. I and a neighbor are looking for a quick fix. I may use a piece of brake lining.

I suggest that if you have one of these, check it.

Not sure if I exactly understand your problem. If it is the asbestos gasket that is between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe, then I'll share what I have been doing for many years. I always have a local muffler shop make a "sleeve" that is swadged to fit the inside diameters of the both the manifold and exhaust pipe (I take both pieces to the muffler shop to guarantee a precise fit). The pipe is usually 3-4 inches long and snug fitting. The manifold clamp is installed and the sleeve inside the pipes eliminates exhaust leaks at the clamp.

I thought he made an oversized rear clamp with a liner to protect his mufflers from cracking at the welds. This wouldn't have anything thing to do with the manifold clamp. Obviously I'm on the wrong track here so please fill me in.

I tried one of those things a few years back...like 24-25 years or so.

A pain in the....

Haven't used one since.

I've seen the lining come out of two Aries clamps. My fix was two wraps of fiberglass cloth, scraps from a boat project. To read about my 'other' Aries problem, here's a link to it on Vince's Website. My next muffler will be steel, plain steel.

Wrap the clamp area of the tail pipe with some muffler patching tape to build up the pipe diameter.

I found an original clamp and mounted it with a radiator bolt. This gives a little with the spring. I'll report on my atventure to THE Plains tomorrow. We will be seeing the Scottish games which means haggis, pipers, bands, throwing telephone poles and drinkin beeeeerz.
