Mixed parts 43"/44" steering shaft fix?
I have a project I bought in peices and have found I have the shorter 43" steering shaft. When I put the steering tube over the shaft, it is coming up about an inch short for shaft and threads at the top to properly seat the steering wheel. This leads me to assume that the tube is for the 44" shaft. Seen as how this car is kind of a bastard of mixed parts anyway, would it be a suitable fix to cut an inch off the bottom of the tube so it seats farther down on the steering box upper race, thus giving me the needed shaft length at the top? Thanks experts.

if you cut it off at the bottom your gas & spark levers will not end up in the right spot, so if you going to cut the tube cut it at the top right under the quadrant then cut the left over piece out of the inside of the quadant drill four 1/4" holes around the quadant slide it back on the tube and weld in place, you will have to shorten your gas & sparks rod to.

Sounds like a lot of work. I just ordered a new 44" shaft and worm from Snyders. Might as well get off my wallet and do it right.
