Default 1936? Aluminum intake manifold- Vanspeed

Posting some pics of an intake manifold I got off c-list last fall. Vanspeed has been looking for a replacement so posting these for him and to possibly get a little knowledge of the different variations over the years. When I received this one there were no studs for generator, carb or fuel pump stand. Had extras to use and this intake looks like it was never installed on an engine. I haven't done any cleaning and the bottom end looks like new.

Yes, That's what vanspeed has been advertising for; 1936
High generator mount, low fuel pump stand mount

The intake manifold pictured above is a '35. However, it will work fine on a '36, but will not be show correct.

I second John; it's the most common of those used on '35s. There appears to be a typical date on the underside of when it was cast. Is it legible?

Really, John? i always thought that style intake was 35 and 36. So, how does the 36 differ?

Cast date looks like 3-35 but is not very clear.

Heat riser passages different between 35 and 36....pump stand mount different too.

Be very careful on either 35 or 36 the heat riser passages have a bad habit of rotting
thru due probably to 85+ yrs of use and acid effects of exhaust

That is indeed the manifold that I have. I got a lot of people sending me pics of manifolds that had the high fuel pump or the low generator.

Brian, I did a post here some years back on the differences between various years of early Ford V-8 intake manifolds, but couldn't find it last night. I'll give it another try today, and post the link here if I get lucky and find it here. Otherwise, I could put something together by taking new pics.

The '36 intake does not have ribs under the carburetor. That area is larger and more rounded than '35.

So, does the 36 manifold have the part number 68-6520? I have a June 1937 dated Chassis Parts List and it only shows the 48-6520 for 33-36 cars, which would seem to indicate the 1935 part was being used as a service replacement for 33 and 34 cars. Is it possible there was a casting change without changing the part number?

My 35 has the intake with the smoother outline, a carry over from 34. My serial number says it was built (approximately) in December 1934. It also has no reinforcing beads in the cowl sides.

See post #7 above, avoid this. Sometimes the burn out can be inside and not as obvious.

Interesting as the intake that was posted looked to be it. I went today in a chance and bought This intake for $50. It is exact. If you look at GaryU’s pics there are slight differences. notably at the flow of the intake at the carb riser and generator mount. This intake is dated 7-7-36.

Vanspeed: Be aware you can not use the 94 Carburetor on your manifold due to the hole from the heat riser passage. It will burn up the 94 power valve. You can use the Strombergs.
After viewing some of the photos posted previously I have to say I believe the manifold pictured below is the early 35 intake. The 35 engine uses the oil fill baffle tube that mounts inside the engine valley. To do this the intake manifold has a round hole under the fuel pump adapter, to support the baffle. It is difficult to read the part number may be 40-6520-H and date of 40-11. Any of the intakes with the four sided hole under the fuel pump adapter can not use the 35 style oil fill baffle tube.

The differences might be "slight", but it is those differences that distinguish the '35 from the '36 manifold.
