Default '47/8 Fresh air heater

I have parts for one of these heaters i.e. the controls, the hot water unit that mounts the inside of the firewall, and the fan assy. for the engine side of the firewall but I don't have any of the ducting that connects to the front of the car.

Can someone help me identify what else I am missing by way of photographs and/or installation instructions?

Thanks a bunch yet again

It's either hot water or hot air.
The hot air heaters won't fit on RHD cars.

Thanks Chris, I am fully aware that they will only work on LHD, Cheers.

There's a schematic of a 1940 hot air heater on page 712 of the Green Book.

Very interesting, I didn't know there was such a thing, what is a Green Book and where might I get one. Thanks a bunch.

The 'Green Book' that everyone refers to is the 1928 - 1948 ford parts book and is available in reprint from many vendors. Here's a link to one on CD on ebay. The hard copy is a lot more expensive.

I have a complete fresh air heater assembly including the pieces in the hood for a 47-48 that I will sell. If someone is interested in it PM me.

Meric,
I remember now - last year at the Palmy swap meet there was a LHD 46 coupe with that set-up attached to the underside of the hood.

Thanks for the info and I do love your 42. I had one out in Long Beach Calif back in 1956. Looked like someone had painted it black with a pine top but I still loved that car.

I do have instructions and templates but do noy know if I can find them--will see.
The Fresh Air heater was an option/accessory in about '47-8; it is a hot water heater and the FA refers to its intake system, which gets air from in front of radiator unlike the typical recurculator box ones used '39-48 as the normal heater.
If I can't find the paper, look around for a '48 Ford. I believe many had prestamped punchouts in the cowl to take the device, and you can pretty easily figgerout the rest once the big pieces are in.

Thanks Bruce, Hopefully you are able to find the instructions as I am not sure that the Canadian sourced (RHD) bodies we have here in New Zealand have the 'punch-outs' you mention.

The main show is a big round hole where the external blower meets the internal heater...then just lots of holes, for bolts and hosiery.
The secret plans are either rolled up in a document case in my dining room, right next to the collection of obsolescent anti-tank devices, or hopelessy buried in cubic yards of parts in the deepest corner of my basement. Will see!

OK...instructions are not where I hoped. Still have some ideas on getting or deriving the info. You have heater and blower, but not the underhood air scoop??

I'll post pictures of the underside of hood, firewall cut-out, and heater assembly tomorrow. I'll be out at the barn to take pictures tomorrow.

For everyone not familiar with the fresh air system this is what it looks like. The square hole in the firewall is where the fan mounts. It brings air through the plenum that is mounted up in the hood. The heater core is more like a modern day setup. I have the fan somewhere. I sat it down in my barn somewhere. At the end of the plenum there is a round hole. The fan is mounted right under it.

And...the plenum/scoop reaches to in front of the radiator. During winter, you remove the upper shroud on radiator so it gets air via the grill.
