Default '28-'29 Windshield Problems

We have a E-28 (Left hand brake) Roadster Pickup truck, our problem is the windshield that was sold to us for '28/29 open cars seems to be too short. Without the bottom weatherstrip in there is about 1" gap between the frame and the cowl/dash. With the weather strip in place the rubber hardly touches the cowl, and at highway speeds the windshield folds in until it hits the steering wheel. (very exciting) Our windshield measures 14 5/8"at the sides and is the same as the '28/'29 open cars. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong?
Thank you, Walt Kaufman

Walt, that is correct in size (I know it looks odd w/o the rubber), and the reason the windshield is moving is due to the stanchions and cone are worn. This has been addressed several times here in the past. See if you can find it by searching. If not, let us know and we'll see if can point you to it.

What Brent is trying to say, is that the rubber is not what should be stopping the windshield. The interference fit between the cone on the windshield frame and the cone in the windshield post is what should be holding the windshield in place. Take off the windshield frame and look at those cones. Look to see what parts are and are not contacting each other, and sand them accoridingly until they hold very tight when installed and tightened.

Brent & Terry, thank you for your response, after working Model A's for 60 years I always thought Ford did a pretty good job with the Model A, but I think they missed with this windshield design.
Thanks again.
