Default rivet help!!!!!!!

I need to rivet 3/16 inch rivets and a tandem type 351 seems to have the power ....but these are expensive. Does anyone rent these [I found Hansen rivet does but only in California where I do not live]?

Any other ideas

thanks Ed Solari

Where are you installing the rivets ? Can't you use a snap and a hammer ?

Everything above 5/32" is a chore. I've had good luck with squeezers on the little rivets but you need a really big one for 3/16 or larger rivets. I assume you are refering to steel rivets for frames and such. I still buck them with a 5X Cleco pneumatic hammer and the largest bucking bar I can muster. If they don't give, I heat them with the oxy/acetylene torch till they will. At some point I'm going to try to make my own hydraulic squeezer but I need to tool up for that.

As far as renting one, I've never tried so I'm not much help there. A person hase to have all the heads for a squeezer so I would hope you have access to those too. Mose squeezers use the same tooling and sets aren't to bad a price.

The rivets are scattered around the sheet metal of the 34 roadster I am working on. It is basically 3/16 shaft with 3/8 round head. I only need a flat side and a round head squeezers die. I was planning to have the flush die redone at a machine shop to recreate the OEM waffle pattern. The big issue is the squeezer rivet tool is in the $1200 to 2000 range new ... I have found cheaper used ones but they a beat up. So a well maintained rental seems to be the answer.
