"41 pickup running board cover?
I'm thinking of trying to put '40 passenger car running board rubber covers on my '41 pickup. The paint just doesn't hold up. I came out of the grocery store and someone had run a shopping car into it and peeled about 10" of paint off. Will it work? Any "glitchs" I might run into?

I don't think that car covers will work on truck boards.
I sprayed my 41 boards with bed liner spray. Works well. |

Thanks PICUP;
I wasn't sure, but thought I would ask the "Go TO" guys. I considered bed liner and still might go that way. Body shop guy talked me out of it the first time I mentioned it. It HAS to look better than chipped paint with primer showing. Steve |

The passenger cover is notched for the large body mount, truck has no mount. It might be possible to inlay a rectangular patch, but it will mostly look worse than scratches in paint.

Re: "41 pickup running board cover?
Dont even think of a cover... the shape of the boards are different and you have the ribs on the pickup boards to contend with.
When you have the boards repainted consider a urethane bumper paint, It should be better formulated to resist scrapes and abrasion than normal body paint. Remember though, that the paint adhesion is only as good as the body work and primers underneath, the issues you had may have more to to with the prep underneath than the paint. |

Yeah, I think Powder coating is a great idea. In My opinion it would look a lot better than bed liner coating and easier to clean as well.

Re: "41 pickup running board cover?
Thanks for the input guys, I've pretty much decided on spray bed liner. If I can figure out how to post a pic, I'll do that once it's done.
