Default Gas gauge sending unit

Hi Guys ,
I guess you all thought I died. Well I'm still restoring and building Just not an old Ford. I have a 39 PU that I did a few years ago. The Drake replacement sending unit I put in lasted about 6 months and quit. I remember there was a lot of chatter about them failing. Of late has anyone found a sending replacement unit that works without failing in a short time and gives the proper sending resistance? Just hoping that the problem has been rectified over the last several years . Frank PKNY

Nice truck. Only thing I find wrong with it is that it is not mine.

I've installed several of the Drake senders and so far they've kept working.

One of them had a dead spot right out of the box, found when testing it with an ohm meter before installing it. Looking at it carefully, I saw that there was a small speck of something on the sender's resistive element. I scraped it off and it has worked fine ever since.

Since you have to remove it anyway, put an ohm meter on it and see if it is totally dead, or just bad in certain sections.

If the resistance for a '39 is the same as '41-'48 I bought mine from Yogi's in Midwest. Been in my car or 15 yrs. Believe '41 is 78 ohm. It's been a while.
