Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
i dunno, same goes with guns: 2 people get in a bidding war and will win it just on principal that someone else was trying to take it from them. Price goes sky high and seller laughs to the bank

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
Weird, there were 3 people bidding crazy. Usually they are only 2 nutty people bidding up something. Some people have more money (at least for a while anyway) than they have $ense. I bet the seller was real happy. I hope it work OK.

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
Wasn't the late 1931 coil a rare bird ? It had the Ford script, without the oval. Am I correct about that ?

Maybe by morning when the buyer sobers up the deal won't go through.
I've seen other items sold by twlucas, and he usually gets high bids. I don't know what his secret is. Here's the direct link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Mod...l2557#ht_0wt_0 |

Terry really doesn't have a secret; he simply knows his products, does quality work and stands behind it. He has always been a straight-up dealer with me. |

No, the late '31 script coil was produced into the 1950's and is very common. The coil with script in an oval is fairly rare as it was only made by Essex Co. Yep, that coil went a bit high but folks have learned that all those (common) script coils they collected were incorrect for their cars!

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
I would say that if you spent thousands of dollars and years restoring your car (or having it done professionally) and the last correct item you need is right in front of you, $280.00 is not that much.
I'm not that kind of guy but I have buddies with off topic cars spend way more for that last final "correct piece" that they spent years searching for to make their car perfect.

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
I thought the coil with the Ford Script in an oval was for the Model B Ford four cylinder cars, 1932 -1934. Is that not correct?

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
Terry is a good guy!!!!!!! I've got some of the best original model A parts from him. The parts are always high but he often has the good original parts that are near impossible to find elsewhere. I don't know about the coil but if a person knows what they want and are willing to pay the price, you can't blame Terry.

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
That is a misconception and widely held belief among folks in the hobby. As I said, only Essex Co. made coils with the oval and they were just one supplier. Most '32-34 four cylinder cars would not have had an Essex coil. Unfortunately due to their rarity the earliest script Essex coil I've seen had a date code of October 1931. Those that want to stick to the old stories disregard it as manufactured for 1932 production. I will eventually find one dated from August and that will be the end of the story.

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
Hi price or hard to find ? I bid $1600 for a army motorcycle passenger seat .It went for $2250 .I didn't get it but have been three years finding one .I have a Copo car that needed the dated carburetor ,$ 1500 I now have one but the chances of getting the parts can be 'no'. I like my two A's as their is such a great supply of parts and service .

Re: $280 Model A Coil 30-31
I have bought many items from this seller with "NO PROBLEMS" ever. I did over the past 5 years bought 4 original coils for Model "A" Fords. ALL worked out fine and all a lot nicer then the one sold. I think the most i did pay was $175.00 and a very mint one at that. 3 out of the 4 are working fine on cars and the 4th one is a spare.
