1929 Model A Steering
Maybe I am using the search wrong but could not find answer.
Need to replace the the steering gear box etc in my 29 Model A as its been damaged and fixed before (poorly at that) Looking for complete unit I could buy and install instead of rebuilding old one from parts. Looking for a new and maybe improved version out their ? any recommendations as to where I might be able to pick one of these up ? Best Regards and Thanks |

Welcome to the barn. The f100 steering box may be the answer. Great looking car. Jeff

Re: 1929 Model A Steering
If you are going to be driving the car the f100 steering box would be a great choice. If the car is going to be in a museum (I am looking at your screen name) where originality is important and driven only occasionally a rebuilt original box would probably be better a choice. Call Bert's (303) 293-3673 or Bratton's (301) 829-9880 and see if they have rebuilt boxes or can recommend someone that rebuilds them.

Don't use a search that has a word with 3 letters or less.

Re: 1929 Model A Steering
If you completely rebuild the front end and steering box, have good shocks and springs, you should have a very nice handling car. 90 years of ware and sitting cause a lot of small problems to compound.
My recommendation has always been to bring car back to factory spec’s, and GREASE offen. Don’t forget u joint. Doesn’t have to be an award winning show car, but running gear should be correctly rebuilt and maintained. Enjoy. |

Re: 1929 Model A Steering
Thank you everyone for the replies and recommendations, have sent an email off in regards to the f100 steering box via the link posted and await news as to he cost and availability of this unit. Will keep everyone here informed as to how it works out.
The plan is to use and drive the car to many shows and events in the area as we are a private collection museum here and like to take our different items in our collection to various shows and events threw out the season to allow as many people as possible to see them and promote this great hobby of restoration and history. Hope it's ok to post this link here http://s15.zetaboards.com/TGTA/topic/10377287/1/#new that is a series of pictures of the restoration of the car. Was not a complete tear down and the steering was always very lose but we took this to be because of it's age etc, but as it got worse it became too dangerous to operate on the open road so was taken apart (which is the state its in now) and it was discovered that the steering had suffered some damage in its past life and some poor braze repair etc and now replacement is only option (either original or modified) and with the desire to drive it more often a more up to date steering is welcomed. |
