Column drop/steering box rebuild questions
I am about to reassemble my 34 pickup column drop after cleaning and repainting it but had a few questions:
What lubricant(s) is recommended to use on the internal moving parts of the column drop? What does the bolt (part #20357-s) look like that secures the lock set? Also,a few questions on the steering box (f100) as I put it back together: What type of gasket sealant is recommended for the sector shaft adjuster plate gasket? And the steering gear end plate gaskets? |

Re: Column drop/steering box rebuild questions
small amount of dry graphite lube is good.
For 34 the retaining pin for the ignition lock cylinder is a stepped cylinder with one side the diameter of the hole in the lock cylinder and the larger side is the diameter of the hole in the drop. Many use a hex head set screw. There is a fellow on ebay that sells the set screw and tap with the set screw modified to fit into the lock cylinder, You can use a small bit of RTV on the box gaskets. |

Re: Column drop/steering box rebuild questions
I never put any sealant on the end plate shim gaskets, but do use Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket on the side cover gasket. I also use liquid Teflon thread sealant on the cover bolt threads.
