Default Headlight buckets

What is the difference between the 28-29 and 30-31 headlight buckets?

The 30-31 car buckets are stainless steel.

30-31 buckets are rounded on back, 28-29 are more cone shaped - kinda pointy on back. As Franklin posted, 30-31 passenger are stainless. 28-29 are plated, nickel I think. All years commercials are plain steel painted black with plated or stainless rims, depending on year. A few Deluxe model commercials are plated or stainless, same as passenger.

I noticed the 30-31 focus adjusting screws are 10-32 x 11/16” while the 28-29 adjusting screws are 10-32x1”. I assumed I had 30-31 buckets but getting the focus adjusting screws in is a major chore. I am thinking I have 28-29 buckets. The next Model A get together I attend I am going to check out the buckets profile.
Mine are stainless.

There are no 28-29 stainless buckets as far as I know, even in the aftermarket.

The adjusting screw doesn't care what bucket it is used in as long as it fits the socket. What year is your car?

1931. The screw Brattons lists for the 30-31 headlight is too short (11\16”) to reach the socket. The 28-29 parts list shows the screw 1”.

I’ll just use the longer screw and quit being concerned about it.

If you use a longer screw and you turn the screws to much you can short out the bulb socket. Reach in with one hand and push the socket back and then start a proper length screw.

I use screws from my screw bin and fit them to the socket before installing the reflector. Heed the above admonishment from Big hammer.
