Re: 1939 ford dash
Massage it? It would demand considerably more effort than a simple massage.
Closed car dash is narrower than an open dash. Closed car dash is deeper than an open dash. Closed car dash has an opening for the windshield crank mechanism while the open car dash has no such provision. Glove box lids (openings) are different. Photos attached are convertible coupe and a (standard) coupe. I'd think you could discern from these photos just how much effort it would require to do it ("massage") nicely.

Re: 1939 ford dash
Here is a picture of a 1938 Ford Convertible Sedan Dash. Could this Dash be from a closed car, as there is the provision for the crank to open the Windscreen? |

Re: 1939 ford dash
As Kube said they are different animals.
However a good sheet metal worker could make a passable looking one from a 39 sedan/coupe ( they are the same ) if you are not too worried about authenticity. About 4 days work and 1 day of that would be on the glovebox lid and hinge. I have a mint LHD example hanging on the wall at my place but I'm several thousand miles from you in New Zealand. Keep advertising on the Ford barn or the EFV8 website first. I recently sold a RHD one - now they are really scarce. Don't even think about a 38 one - it wouldn't look at all correct. Good luck. The open car and wagon dashes are identical.
