New Game, we can all play: The Model A Ford Connection
I have over the years, watched a lot of movies where there have been no Model A's present - BUT, there have been 'traces' of the Model A, without a Model A actually being there.
For example, I just finished watching the movie THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN, staring Anthony Hopkins. The INDIAN, by the way, refers to his 1920's MotorCycle. The time frame is the early '50's. In the movie the A. Hopkins character arrives with his Indian MotorCycle at a used car lot, buys a cheap car and negotiates to use the guy's mechanic shop to build a trailer for his motorcycle, out of used and scrap parts the guy has in his junk yard. As the crude home-built trailer emerges, Low and Behold - I notice that the wheels are the recognizable (by Model A people) 21" wheels from a '28-'29 Ford Model A ! PRESTO ! A Model A 'connection' without there being an actual Ford Model A. So Ford Forum Folks - that is an example of how the game is played. There must be NO actual Model A's present in the movie, only the recognizable part or verbal reference, to the Model A. Of course it is easier to find such 'ghosts' in earlier movies; but as the Model A has begun to fade from the memories of the movie 'Prop.Dept.', script writers, etc. there will be far fewer Model A 'ghosts' in newer movies. Therein lies the challenge. BUT, for the purposes of our GAME, any movie - old or new -will do. The only two things to remember are: no Model A must be seen in the movie, and only verbal references to the Model A, and/or some recognizable PART of a Model A is seen. Gentlemen - Start your search ! |

That was a great movie. I have a copy of it. By the way I understand he really did not go pee on his tree every morn.

A boderline candidate..."Christmas Story", the Jean Shepherd one...
Kids in an alley go past a Model A body and other stuff. I haven't seen it in a while...will see it again on the 25th...but I don't think there's enough stuff to count as a complete Model A. |

Doug. Are you bored today or what? Wayne
P.S. to make it more interesting, if you only see the wheels, guess what breed of dog urinated on the tire. |

Re: New Game, we can all play: The Model A Ford Connection
A few years back from one of the last Mummy movies, Return of the Mummy or Revenge of the Mummy the 1920's touring car the whole group escape from the mummy in a yellow beige tourer that has a 28-29 modified grill shell without the usual blue oval emblem. The actual car was special built by Hollywood for the movie. I saw it while on tour thru Universal Studios.

Rollie Free. Googled it. Looks like Phil Irving had a hand in the design of the motorbike.
"At the end of 1963, Irving was approached by Jack Brabham to design a simple, lightweight and powerful 3-litre V8 engine for the upcoming change in Formula One" |

Re: New Game, we can all play: The Model A Ford Connection
Why would it have anything to do with Aussies??? Lots to do with Kiwis but Aussie aren't Kiwis, FYI.

Re: New Game, we can all play: The Model A Ford Connection
Completely missed the point.
Why would the Kiwis (yes, it was made in NZ) make a film about a foreigner like Rollie? Being Australian, I don't care but I didn't like the way it was assumed that it HAD to be all about an American when it clearly was not. By the way, have you worked out the principle of companion cylinders yet?

Re: New Game, we can all play: The Model A Ford Connection
Synchro999 - What does it have to do with Aussies?
Quite simply, Aussies are neighbors of the Kiwi. Aussies live in their neighborhood. Many 'yanks' can't tell them apart. Two peas in a pod. And they both 'talk funny' ! I guess now it is time to hear a lot of static about those remarks. So please send me a P.M. (always welcome) rather than clutter up this thread _____________________________________ Forever4 - "What does it have to do with Model A's?" ------------ As mentioned in post #1, the movie was all about two 21" wheels from a 1929 Ford Model A. Well, there may have been some collateral footage about a N.Z. guy chasing his dream. But let's be clear - NO Aussies were harmed in the making of this film. |

Re: New Game, we can all play: The Model A Ford Connection
Ummm. Phil Irving was an Aussie.
"We named it the Irving Vincent after Phil Irving , the legendary Australian design engineer employed by the Vincent Motorcycle Company in 1936 to deliver the fastest production bike of the era. http://www.irvingvincent.com/about_us He also made some pretty mean heads for our local Holdens in the early 60's. Just sayin |

Rollie Free's story is pretty great, too. But, I don't think there is a movie about him. There probably should be. Below is the most famous photo of him.
Back the topic of the game...has anyone see the E-Trade 'Retired' commercial. I think that is a Model A wheel on the left side. Click here for 'E*TRADE Commercial - Retired' Ken
