Default Trunk

I found out yesterday that someone I know has a parent that has a Model A trunk. I have not seen it. I might be interested in it if they are willing to sell. My question is......Were there trunks especially made for the Model A or does any trunk work? I never gave it much thought before.

Hi:

Trunks were after market on the Model A's. Many companies made trunks for different cars. To see if that trunk fits, measure your trunk rack. If you dont have one contact a vendor and ask for the measurements of the trunk rack. Hope this helps.

Some trunks are flat on the back and some curved to fit around a spare tire depending on the rack.

I always thought the curved ones are for the Sedans.

I own a tudor and have an original period curved back after-market trunk. It measures 19x39x15.5 deep. It fits perfectly. Also have a coupe with period correct trunk that's 17.5x34x13 deep. Both cars have to have a fender-well for the spare. A spare mounted on the back of the cars really pushes the trunk out there. There was a trunk made with the spare tire mounted outside of the trunk, this one is very hard to find but very classy, IMO. Get a trunk, the added room is great. Keep them "A"s running!

From my understanding and what Joop posted, there was one company that made trunks that Ford dealers sold. More information on these trunks can be found in the Restoration Guidelines & Judging Standards. I went by photos and dimensions from those 2 sources when I made mine for my original Model A trunk rack introduced a month earlier than the trunk in the Service Bulletins.
