Default Water Wetters

What is the thinking on water wetters, other than "Redline"? Are there substitutes that work, such as machine dishwashing detergents? What would be the downside here in a very moderate winter climate? (Danville, CA)
Thanks

There are a number of products used to improve performance of the Model A's. Not all were specifically made for the use they are put to. I know of guys here that swear by the dish washer soap as a water wetter that doesn't seem to have any drawbacks. I was just wondering what the thinking is of the "barrens," that is all.

What are you trying to accomplish with a "water wetter"? Wash your dishes as you drive?

My thinking on water wetter is that it is not needed. I know what it is and how it works, what is it supposed to accomplish? What are you hoping it will accomplish?

I run Red Line water wetter in all my cars as an anti corrosion additive with the added advantage of the car running a little cooler.
A Lancia Lambda In Australia siezed it's rear piston and after a lot of thorough and scientific research it was discovered that a popular anti-freeze/ anti corrosion additive was reacting with the water of that area and causing sediment that was accumulating at the rear of the block where coolant flow is weakest.
After much further research, Red Line Water Wetter was recommended as the ideal additive. (These engines are substantially aluminium)
We do not have a freezing issue here

I never heard tell of using dish washer detergent in the radiator for cooling. Wouldn't that make it suds up. any way how much would you use.
