Default Short starter bolt

Where does the short starter bolt go into the bell housing?

Make sure they are all the same length and cannot contact the flywheel when the starter is mounted.

When I removed the starter I did not notice one bolt was shorter than the other 2. Contact with flywheel IS my concern. I guess it will not hurt to cut off the longer ones to be safe.

Starter mounting bolts are 3/8-16 x 1 and should be grade 5. Here's the page from Bratton's that shows them:

Unless you want authentic bolts for a show car, you can get them from your local hardware store.

Don't forget the lock washers.

The 3 mounting bolts are 3/8 -16 x 1".

Guess I was looking them up while 29er was posting.

Thanks for the clarification. Will cut off the longer ones to 1". Got enough starter/bendix/flywheel problems without gambling at this point.
