Default Trunk rack bracket too short for spare?

I dunno, but I just spent $100 on a trunk bracket just like the one shown below:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1930-30-1931...732821&vxp=mtr

I have a spare on the back, and this has 4 1/2 inches from the bracket hole to the bracket. But it now looks like I have to remove the bumper and put the bracket in the bumper holes. There ARE TWO HOLES further out on the bumper, but it won't go there unless I have a verticle bracket.

Even if I take the bumpers off, i still run into the spare and need to be 4 inches lower to clear it, or need a vertical bracket to go to the holes in the bumper that sit further out from where the bumper mounts to the frame's brackets.

I really need to see a pic of somebody's who's done this. Do I need another bracket?

Hers is a set of brackets for sale that I just might need:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Model-A-Ford...648cbd&vxp=mtr

Dang, I was ready to go on a trip and need this quick. Chuck

It should read: "this has 4 1/2 inches from the bracket hole to the luggage rack."

Can't be sure, but it appears that installing that particular rack requires removal of your spare. From all outward appearance, those black plates may serve as adapters to extend the rack out and away from the spare.

The black brackets that are attached to the rack should be vertical. There are other brackets that run horizontal and attack to the bumper supports. Hope this helps. John

Sounds like time to fab your own if the off the shelf parts don't work. Rod

If when you bought it the seller guaranteed it was correct for your car you should not have to fabricate your own. Contact the seller. Wayne

There is a longer bracket made for those of us who have rear mounted spare tires and want to mount a rear trunk. Easy to install and works great.

I have a set of these brackets for extending the rack aft of the spare tire. I will not be using them if you want them. PM me please.

The brackets on the rack shown in your ebay picture are for a car with no rear spare. The black brackets in that photo need to be replaced with a different bracket is you have the spare on the rear

You need the brackets Cool Hand Lurker has shown in that photo. Note- different brackets are required for different body styles.

See examples below.

This is what I did. A bar steel extension with offset. Easy and cheap and works well.
