It's a horrible meet, stay away unless you are selling.

I respectfully disagree with azmodela. I have found some pretty incredible stuff at this swap meet over the years.

If it has been going since 1954 it must be a good meet.

At one time it was located at Hamilton Bowl in Long Beach. The parking lot there was nicked namd "the dust bowl". To keep the dirt from flying up they had a Model TT water tan truck that would drop water on the road. I wish i had taken a picture of it. Does anyone remember that?

Myself and family will be there, not had much luck with good rusty treasures this year but that's not going to stop me, its the other half of the hobby, I will have my roll of one dollar bills in one pocket, and the larger ones in another.

Sadly Kenny Tucker is no longer with us.

I started going to this swap meet when it was at Long Beach State College, then it moved to Vet's Stadium where it was for many years. It used to be a multiple day event and all the vendors camped out and trading parts and stories late into the night. BBQs and campfires were always going and more than a few adult beverages were consumed by almost all. Lots of great cars traded hands at this swap meet over the years. I remember Joe Mac, Kenny Tucker, "Rags" and Sally Lindeman, Carl Burnett, Roger Sowersby, and lots of the other early vendors who used to have so much great stuff for sale and were always great people to talk to and learn from. I'll always remember Sally Lindeman (spelling?) with her "big" blonde hair and perfect makeup unloading a trailer full of Model A parts. Her stories of driving her Model As all over the country were entertaining as can be. You could hear her laugh across the field. That lady knew her Model As and knew how to drive'em.

Didn't this Swap Meet used to be a 2-day, Friday and Saturday event?

Yes it did. And it always pissed me off because I had to work on Friday and by Saturday all the goodies were gone.

Growing up in LA, I attended this swap meet as a kid at the "Dust Bowl", or Hamilton Bowl as it was called. I remember running after the Model TT sprinkler truck and jumping on it. I remember camping on the dirt. I remember lots of brass cars being towed to the meet behind "modern" 1950s cars. Post 1915 Model Ts and Model As were about as scarce as dirt, and a few people were actually finding value in 1932-1934 Fords. I remember the scouts from Harrah's combing the swap meet looking for treasures. I remember sitting by a campfire listening to people discussing who was building what car for next year's Signal Hill Climb. Would Chris Eggsard beat Doc Pruden? Would La Rue Thomas really do that well with his creation DO creation? I remember loads of speed equipment for sale. I remember a complete Miller OHV engine with twin Winfields selling for 500.00 and hearing everyone say the buyer must be " made of money." NOS parts were the norm, and, not particularly easy to sell if they were newer than 1928. The Long Beach Model T Club Swap Meet is legendary and was the foundation for the hobby as we know it today. I was a member of the club prior to moving out of LA. If it weren't for the members of this club, I would not be involved with the old car hobby today. Thank you, LBMTC.

I wish I could go. I just went to one yesterday expecting it to be like last year with all the parts I needed. Well, big bummer. I didn't get hardly anything. Still looking for 19's on the cheap if anyone knows somebody that'll ship em to me.

I moved from L.A. 36 yrs. ago but never missed the Long Beach swap meet when I lived down there. Started going in the early 60's. Even used to plan our visits in Aug. so I could go. I liked it best when it was at the round bowl, I went at night probably Fri. eve. when it was under the lights & then back on Sat. Lots great stuff & I got some great buys. Joe McClelland part owner of Ford Parts Obsolete used to sell his personal stuff there. Much of the stuff you see at swap meets now would have been thrown away then.

I attended the Meet today. They have changed it to a 1 day meet and that seemed to help. There were probably twice the vendors as last year. It was great to see Herb Bramley and Howard Generich both of whom are around 90 years old and going strong. Thanks to the LBMTC for another great event. Jay McCord

It was a good swap meet this morning, lots of buyers and more vendors than last year. I found some nice stuff, valve stems, almost NOS powerhouse generator, nice, restorable Stewart Warner horn, mint E-28 muffler clamp, and even an interim '28 hub cap (June to August '28.)
